Facilities

Formula Custom Carbon
The Lymington (UK) facility has been setup as the centre for Formula’s custom and large race spar production for yachts over 60’ (18.3m). This facility and production team has vast experience at the highest quality end of the carbon spar market.
The factory is currently equipped with a 39m autoclave, walk-in freezers for pre-preg storage, a machine shop with lathes and mills and a 40m spray booth.
Investment plans include to improve on all these capabilities but of particular importance will be the extension of the autoclave to a minimum of 50m length.
Formula Production Carbon
The acquisition of the high tech spar manufacturer, Black Flag Composites, near Montpellier (France) has allowed Formula to further develop its activities in the high end yacht racing and ocean cruising markets and provide a French base for manufacturing and service.
This operation is used predominantly for production carbon spars up to 60’ and has a 35m autoclave with a 2m diameter. The team have a wealth of experience in composites ranging from America’s Cup, Open 60’s and Multi-hulls to Aerospace and Formula 1 motor sport.
Formula Custom Alloy
The recent acquisition in Blokzijl (Holland) has further expanded Formula’s large alloy expertise and allowed the setup of a centre for custom alloy spars for yachts of 40m and above.
The Dutch facility has a wealth of experience in custom alloy spars for boats ranging from 15m to 74m. The 2,300m2 facility includes and machine shop and a 400m2, 60m fabrication bays and a 65m long paint facility.
Formula Production Alloy
The Formula Yacht Spars factory in Essex (UK) specialises in manufacturing alloy spars for production and custom yachts up to 40m.
The facility is setup as the centre for production spars for medium to large projects. However, the team has experience in supplying custom alloy rig packages for superyachts.
Formula Filament Winding
Also based at the Essex (UK) site is the filament winding machine. This equipment is set up for winding carbon tubes using pre preg tow for the highest quality filament wound components in the market place.
The machine is CNC controlled and can wind tubes up to 29m long in a single piece but is also used to supply carbon spinnaker poles for yachts at lower cost than the female moulded alternative.
There is a large stock of mandrels to suit most projects but also a wealth of experience on hand to assist the client in designing low-cost, custom mandrels for one-off or short run projects.
Formula Technical Services
