The Formula Method

Construction

  • Two piece (fore & aft) continuous single length female mouldings with side lap join, glued and externally taped.
  • Please note that no mechanical fasteners are used in Formula’s construction method for two piece spars.
  • This is a method first employed early in Formula’s life and developed further with the ‘Ericsson’ syndicate. It has subsequently been adopted by many of our customers who have taken advantage of the structural, weight, windage and fittings design advantages that this method provides.
  • Formula has a long term agreement with the Advanced Composites Group (ACG). This has allowed us to have access to fully approved fibre on lead times of 4-6 weeks which has greatly enhanced both Formula’s and clients’ ability to respond to design change requirements. We understand that this availability is significantly shorter than other suppliers.

Quality Production

  • The relationship with ACG provides us with access to their technical centre who undertakes all Formula’s standard testing requirements. Formula has also worked with MERL Ltd and Bodycote for sample testing as well as Wavelength Ltd and Marine Results Ltd for on site NDT testing. We welcome working with new test houses as the client requires.
  • All composite material is batch logged on delivery and carbon has both Certificates of Conformity and Certificates of Analysis provided as standard by ACG.
  • Samples are cut from each roll, labelled, filed and stored in one of Formula’s freezers for future analysis should this be required.
